• being rejected from the very opportunities that would allow them to grow into something undeniable

• being deceived and scammed by players claiming to want to help them, and

• being looked over for simply not knowing the right people

That’s where we come in. We believe community and collectivism are pillars of an artist’s journey, as well as necessary forms of protest against an industry that always seems to take more than it gives. Kontra is event curation, community building, workshops, artist development, live shows, art markets, consulting, open mics, showcases, contests, networking opportunities, and so much more.

Creativity connects us all. From the music you listen to, to the shows you watch on tv, to the art on the walls in your apartment, art is all around us. It is inextricably tied to our humanity. Such an important and often spiritual practice should never be something that you are forced to do on your own, until you get “big enough to get noticed” by major players. Artists, big or small, should have the opportunity to be seen and given access because of their crafts and their talents, not because of who they know or what they can afford.
